Who’s my daddy?

For many youth there is heartache that needs healing. I read this true story today on a yahoo article:

It’s something that every little girl fantasizes about ... that the phone will ring and the voice on the other end of the line will tell her she’s not the lonely, gawky girl that she thought she was. That she is, in fact, a princess.

And that’s exactly what happened to Sarah. In 2004, Sarah, who had been adopted by a family —hired a private investigator to find her biological father. The investigator called back and the information he yielded was a shocker: her father was a member of a royal family in the Southern Province of Sierra Leone. She was, by birthright, a princess. "I just about fell off my seat, I mean, a princess. To be totally honest, it was really cool."

Sarah was able to contact her father’s brother, who promised to pass on her contact information to her dad. Two weeks went by, time Sarah spent wondering if she’d be welcome in her father’s life—or his world. When he called, the first words he spoke to her were comforting: "He said, ‘Please forgive me. I didn’t know how to find you,’" she says. "And then he said, ‘When can I meet you? I want you to come.’"

In December, Sarah flew to Sierra Leone. Sarah received a royal welcome. As she drove into the city, hundreds of people swarmed the car to welcome her. The women of the village, dressed identically sang and danced. And then she met her father, who—to her delight—had eyes similar to her own. Sarah said: "For the first time to look like someone… it was the most beautiful gift in the whole world."

Whether you are a young man or a young woman, we all have a desire to look like someone. Read this:

God sent His son, to rescue us. And we are set free to experience our rightful heritage. You can tell for sure that you are now fully adopted as God’s children because God sent the Spirit of his Son into our lives. And we can feel it and here it crying out, "Papa!

Isn’t it great that we have the privilege of intimate conversation with God? That should make it plain that we are His children. And if you are a child of God, you're also an heir, with complete access to God’s inheritance. Gal. 4:4

That sounds kinda deep but the meaning is simple. We struggle with wondering who we are sometimes. Not knowing whom are our fathers. We know that we don’t look like anyone around us. And we just want to belong.

So when you look at your life, not your face or body… who do you look like?
